Key wont come out of ignition.

I have a 97 tiburon that the key wonty come out of the ignition. The only way it come out if u unplug the battery. Why is it doing this?

There is a lock assembly in the switch that is failing. The solenoid to the switch stays energized and locks the key in place. I don't think that component by itself is replaceable but rather the entire ignition switch.
