Hi,

I live in a cold place and want to leave my car in a garage over the winter. The temperature may drop to -30c at worse.

I presume that I should disconnect and remove the battery, but what other things should I do for such a long term storage? Thanks.

Good morning.

Yes, remove the battery. I would also jack the car up and put it on jack stands. That will prevent the tires from flat spotting and making it necessary for you to replace the tires.

Also, make sure you have the proper coolant in the system to prevent it from freezing. Installing a blanket over the engine, possibly a heated blanket, would be good to be sure it will not freeze.

Thanks very much for your answer. A further question then, how long can I realistically store the car for, before flat spotting occurs?

You are welcome.

It will happen in a matter of months.
