idles high with throttle pos sensor unplugged check engine light on, plug it in light goes out idle goes down but then it idles high when the clutch is pushed in. Could this be any thing other than a bad throttle pos sensor if the wires and computer are ok

The TPS seldom causes any problem and it would show a fault code if it is faulty.

High idling are usually caused by vacumn leaks and possible causes are :

1. Idle speed out of adjustment. Check the idle adjust screw and try adjusting.

2. Vacumn leakages. Check PCV, vacumn hoses, brake booster.

3. Faulty EACV or its coolant hoses clogged.

4. Throttle cable stuck and throttle valve not closing fully.

5. Faulty Fast Idle Valve. Check if it is leaking after engine has warmed up.
