2006 Honda Pilot instrumentation

The instrument panel flashes CHECK GAS CAP. I have verified that it is on tight but the warning stays on.

Do I need to replace the cap or some kind of sensor?

Please advise because the Honda dealer is many miles away.

Hi, Try this,
Remove the gas cap and re-tighten several clicks.
Turn the car off and restart it.
With the Check Gas Cap message visable, press and hold the Trip Mileage reset for several seconds and release, the message should clear after a couple of miles.
