Transmission problem
2000 Honda Passport 84000 miles

I have been having problems when I start my car going from 1st gear to 2nd gear. It jerks really hard. It is an automatic but with only 84000 miles (not really alot for a honda). I brought it in to a mechanic and he said I had foam and dirt in the rear differential. I had the oil changed and it ran great for a day. Now it's started up agian. Unfortunately to leave in the morning I have to drive up a big hill so right away it just jerks into 2nd. I'm praying it's not the transmission. Based on that what do you think the problem is? It is not a 4wheel drive. I THINK it is front wheel.
thank you.

Hey i have a 4wd 1999 Honda Passport and suffered almost the same symptoms as you. From 2nd to 3rd and back it would shift extremely hard and loud and the car would slightly shake. Figured out it was a dirty range sensor. My friends dad use to work for isuzu and had that exact part ( passport is same as rodeo ). Instead of cleaning the sensor and putting it back in, i replaced it. Got the new part w/ installation for $100 which is extremely cheap! Honda dealer near by wanted $200 for a rebuilt one and probably another 100-200 for installation. I hope this helps you.
