Chugging/irratic idle

I have a 1995 Civic DX, 1.5, auto tranny, 2wd, 164,000 miles. My civic is a bit of a dog. I have had a small leak in my exhaust just before my muffler, and have had some oil consumption.
I had the head gasket replaced in the last 6,000 miles.
I was driving up a slight hill, I depressed the gas to engage the passing gear, when I noticed a difference in not only sound, but power. It sounded like a riding mower, with much less of a pull.
I drove home, and after the exhaust cooled down, I noticed a break in my exhaust, just before the resonator. I tried to clamp it, which did not help. It idles really low in gear, at stops I put it in neuteral to avoid stalling. It chugs apon acceleration, until the rpms get higher, it seems to run fine.
There are now "check engine" lights on. I had the cap/rotor replaced about 3,000 miles ago. I just replaced the plugs today. 3 were gray, one was oily. I'm wondering if I cracked a ring, or worse? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I suspect that a leak down test or a compression test would confirm that you have a very weak cylinder. But I don't think that is the issue. Check the exhaust manifold for breaks or cracks. I suspect that an o2 sensor is either failing or sending bad readings. I encourage you to find the blue two wire connector located up under the dash on the passenger side. It is actually located right up along the firewall. You need to determine the check engine codes.

Can an o2 sensor cause that issue? I used to have an 01 Grand Am SE, and the o2 sensor went, but the check engine light was on. My light on my Civic is off. It comes on for 2 seconds when the car is started, and goes off normally.
If my manifold has breaks, would you be able to see the breaks? I'd have to remove the heat shield first, I assume?
Thanks again!

The o2 is not going to cause the noise and yes take off the heat shield. The cracks might be visible but start the engine and have someone plug the exhaust with a big rag for a bit. You will be able to pinpoint the source.
