2000 Honda Civic gear

I just bought a 2000 honda civic (auto trans.) Recently with 79000 miles. The problem i'm having is that whenever I shift into park I hear a strange sound like engine consuming gas, what could be the problem? Also, im getting a really bad gas consumption (like 6.5L/100KM- city driving). Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Your terminology has be miffed a bit, but try this for size. The extra consumption of fuel is best looked at with looking at a tune-up. Pull a plug and look at it. Look at the exhaust pipe. If they are black in color, which I assume they will be, you need to look in to a tune-up. Check the air filter and make sure the timing is correct. I assume that no check engine lights are on so start with a tune.
