1998 Honda Civic marks

So the middle mark of the section is for the pointer to point at, but what are two marks on the sides for. And whats the tdc mark for? Thank you

Hi there,

Top Dead Center or 0 Deg, is the reference point tor engine assembly, especially setting the valve timing, other marks are usually reference marks use for checking the amount of timing advance, or just as a reference if you need to set the timing to a none specific point due to fuel and pining problems, some advanced timing lights are adjustable so that you can dial in the specific amount of advance required and when this is done the timing is set using the TDC mark. see text & pic for correct timing procedure.
