Fairly skilled hobbyist mechanic; built number of street machines and retrofitted modern motors / fuel systems. Know my way around computer systems and OBD2 diagnostics, etc. But this is driving me nuts. Trying to troubleshoot a gas gauge or sending unit problem. Using real Honda manual for 1996 - 1998 Civic first edition 9/97. Car is US built. Docuementation not matching car. Connector on sending unit is a 6 pin with 5 used. Manual shows 3 pin. Wiring color codes do not match. Results (obviously) of tests do not match. Is there another (later) source for a wiring diagram or test procedure for this?

I've spent more time on this checking manuals. Been through multiple Haynes and Chiltons and even a 96-00 Helms today. Also been through the entire AlldataDIY database (that's what our local library subscribes to). They all show a 3 pin connector. There ain't no 3 pin connector on the top of the gas tank under the access cover. The only connector on the unit shown as the sending unit in the diagrams has a 6 pin connector. There is a hint in the Helms connector diagrams. Is it possible that the 6 pin 'fuel tank pressure sensor sub-housing connector' (#C568) has the gas gauge circuit as part of it?
