Transmission problem
1998 Honda Civic Two Wheel Drive Automatic 63000 miles

My question is when I start my car and shift it to 2 to start driving sometimes it wont move, I mean I have to shift it to D3 and return to 2 then it will work? What do you think is the problem.

Hi kureiii,

Seems the trans is failing, the 2nd speed is failing.

Why do you shift to 2 to move off? For auto trans, when moving off, you either use D4, D3 or 1, never 2, unless you have a slippery road surface. Regular use of 2 to start off would wear the 2nd speed clutches prematurely.

If the Check Engine Light is indicating, get a free scan done at Autozone and let me know the trouble codes. It could be an intermittently malfunctioning solenoids or the trans assy might be faulty.

If it is a fault with the trans assy, a rebuilt is necessary and this can cost a few thousand $.
