I have a 1997 civic and the a/c compressor never kicks off while the air is turned on. Recently my 1996 Honda Civic air stopped working only when the compressor kicks off. I noticed the compressor kicks off and fan together at the same time. The Honda dealer told me that my 96 civic compressor is supposed to cut on and off. While the 97 compressor runs constantly. Is this the truth or they don't know what they are talking about?

Hi there,

Yes, the 96 model is made to cut off when the AC temperature is at the desired temp controlled by the AC thermostat.

As for 97 model I am not sure, but I know of some earlier models whereby the compressor does not cut off, only the pump pressure is regulated electronically according to temp control.
