Hey, I own a 93 honda accord with just under 200 k miles and it has a small 2.2 litre engine. It was running hot so I checked the thermostat, and the thermo gasket blew, so I replaced it and the themostat. Well now when I turn the engine on it idles at 1500 rmp then jumps to 2500 rpm for just a second then goes back down. It will rev up and down and up and down after about ten minutes the engine gets hot again! The fans come on and I have bled the system. The throttle cables dont move the engine is just reving up and down by itself. Does anyone know what might cause this?

Vacuum leak is a concern when the idle rises and falls, any foam or bubles in the radiator? Get a can of spray gumout, spray around the intake manifold and vac lines, if the idle increases you found a leak, any whit smoke comming out of the exhaust? If so you may have a head gasket or warped head problem. See about getting a compression and block test.
