92 Accord Idle problems

I have a 92 Honda Accord LX, 253000 miles, 4 cly auto. For several months the engine idle goes up and down between 2000 and 1000 rpm when the vehicle is in park or nuetral. This occurs whether the engine is warm or cold. I have had the vehicle to the Honda dealership and they were not able to determine the cause. Any ideas?

I would check the intake manifold for a crack or an intake manifold gasket leak. There is a smoke test that can be used to find the leak. Very cheap to do.

Because it happens hot or cold look to this first as a starting point. The extra air that leaks in confuses the computer on the mix of air and gas needed. This causes the engine to surge up and down.
