2006 Honda Accord Uneven brake wear

My 2006 Honda Accord was just in for service, and they told me that the front inner pad on the passenger side was at 2.5 mm, and the front inner on the driver side was 5.5, suggesting that I get new brake pads. They said the calipers slides were well lubed, and were fine, and something probably got in there causing the excessive wear on one side. This sounds fishy to me, and I'm concerned about replacing the pads, only to have it happen again after my warranty period ends. Any suggestions?

What they said don't make sense. It should not happen this way.
If the sliders were ok, then most probably the piston is stiff and not returning enough.

I couldn't agree more. That's why I'm asking. It seems unlikely that the brakes would wear unevenly, without an issue with the calipers.
