2002 Honda Accord Check Engine Light is on and Accleration

I have a 2002 Honda Accord and the check engine light recently came on and is not going off. In addition sometimes when I accelerate the car it takes a second or two before the car accelerates (I hear the engine reving the whole time) and it somewhat "jumps" forward and then works fine for a while. I tend to notice this in the lower gears and have not had issues during highway driving. I am unsure of when the last time the air filter was replaced, if at all. The car was sparsely driven for the first 60,000 miles.
