2000 Honda Accord Making hissing sound while starting or st

Hi,
I have recently noticed the humming/hissing sound frommy hond accord engine area. This come lound only when the car is standing while engine is on and once it starts running I hardly notice that sound. I have consulted onemechanic and he believes that the fan in my urlternator is melted and advice to replace alternator.
I am not sure if he diagnosted it correct. Also I would like to know if this can be something covered with manufacturer, as I dont have extended waranty and my car is 8 yr old with 81K mile. He estimated work at price of $433 ( 225 for OEM part + labor). Can you please advice if this can be an alternator problem or not?

Hi jjvs206,

This should not be covered by manufacturer's warranty.

Noise problem are something cyber mechanics can't do much about.

Why don't you get a second or third opinion elsewhere and also the price quotation.
