My honda was accelerating on its own and when in park the rpms jumped from 1000 to 2000 and the check engine light came on. We took it to Honda dealership and they replaced the IEC? Valve and said that the catalytic converter would go out next in 6-12 months. Should we invest in replacing the CC or move on to another car? The car has been great, but we know the timing belt etc will need replaced again around 200,000. The CC cost is about 1400.00. Thanks!

Find out what turn On the check engine light and comeback with the OBD2 code/s. Or you can try cleaning out the throttle plate and test the throttle position sensor closed and wide open throttle voltages for a start.
