The idle in my car just recently began reving at 2k rpms and fluctuates back and forth down to 1500 rpm's while in park or neutral. Checked belts and all are OK. When I put in gear (drive) the idle returns to normal.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Hi swood359,

The idle speed is too high and possible causes are faults with :
1. Fast Idle Thermal Valve ( FITV).
2. Idle Air Control valve
3. Lack of coolant.
4. Vacumn leaks
5. Idle speed out of specs.
