I may have missed something but what is the vehicle leaking? Oil or coolant? I might suspect that the seal is failing or the oil pump leaking and failing if it is an oil leak. Coolant, and I might suspect the water pump.

Gas odor is generally caused by a leak of the injectors and is a very simple repair. You can usually see the fuel leak at the injectors but most auto parts places can get or have on hand the parts needed to repair the injector leak. It is simple to fix and the parts are pretty cheap as well.
