Service engine stays on, disconnecting the battery does not work, engine now is hard to start, smells like the engine is flooded, at times, or appears to not be getting enought gas, if one pumps the gas pedal, one can get it started, shut it off, try to restart same thing. I think it is a bad sensor perhaps but I don't know which one, I also need know what wire colors are that go to the coolant temp sender, orig connector plastic around it is broken. Got brittle from age. Also does this car have a obc, my haynes manual makes no mention of one. Thanks

Need to know the codes for starters. Are the plugs fouled at this point? This car has a computer if "obc" is what your refering to. Pumping the pedal shouldn't matter as that is controled by the computer anyway-as I understand.

You are correct that pumping the gas pedal does not do anything for starting. However, if the car is flooding, holding the gas pedal down will allow more air to go with the extra fuel and may allow the car to start.
Still, without the codes being read, it will be hard to trouble shoot the problem.
