Car was driving ok then started hopping like it was running out of fuel.

Hi there,
Not a lot to go on, but if the engine is running the electrics are ok, so i would start with the fuel filter and get a fuel pressure & flow test done first,if thats ok look at the coil, plugs & leads as they may be breaking down, it will help if i know what model & engine we are talking about. start here.
