Headlamps off, relays and fuses fine, lamps came back temporarily [1 hour and 2 engine starts] upon examination by mechanic. He said grounding was proper. Jiggling the harness had no effect.

Hello Will,

This happens when the headlight switch goes out, which is common, here is how to change it out to fix the problem.

1. On models equipped with airbags, disarm airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. On models less airbag, disconnect battery ground cable.
3. On all models, remove steering wheel as outlined under STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/STEERING WHEEL.
4. Remove steering column upper and lower covers.
5. Remove combination switch.
6. Reverse procedure to install.
