I need to replace the harmonic balancer no my old car. What I need to know is the balancer vehicle specific or engine specific?
I threw the crankshaft pulley and broke all the bolts holding it on, Then had someone else fix it for me should have done it myself. Now I have a lot of vibration when the car is accelerating. I hope that this is the problem.

They are engine specific if it vibrates when just idling then revving up it may be the balancer otherwise it may be tires/axle shaft etc. So check those first. If you need to remove balancer remove bolts holding it in and it may just come out or you will need a puller that auto parts stores may rent.

The vibration is there when it is idling and in park, but gets worse when I put it in gear. And even more so when I give it some gas. I can barrow a puller from AutoZone and have two self-service salvage yards in my area to get parts from. Will the year of the car make a difference or should I try to keep it in the years of 1986-89 or will one off any 2.5L engine work?
