2000 GMC Sonoma check engine light

I would like to know if there is a way to turn off check engine light without having to hook it up to a computer or scanner. My light comes on about twice a month and stays on for a few miles before going off. It seems to happen when I accelerate quickly from a stand still, pulling out into traffic or go over uneven roads, steep inclines. The engine runs smoothly, but the light is annoying. You could try disconnecting the negative battery cable and it shoujld go away, but then the engine will run rough untill re learned.

I would take it in and have it scanned as there is a problem for the light to come on, autozone will scan for free.
