Any ideas as to why my low fuel light is on and I am unable to put more than a gallon of gas in my car with out it overflowing?
Thank you

As far as the kick back, that sounds like a plugged vent tube. The fuel is not getting any venting to allow the air to escape as the fuel goes in. When the pressure builds up it spits it back out. Low fuel light sounds like a separate issue unless the fuel is low.

How do I unplug the vent tube? Is that something that a GMC mechanic needs to do or is it an easy fix?

HArd to say without being in front of it. Sometimes, you have to pull the filler neck and vent out to get at it, sometimes you have to drop the tank.

IF there was anything done, such as a fuel pump recently, the vent may have gotten kinked.

I recently had major brake repairs but that is it. What would cause this vent to be plugged?
Thank you

No, I really wouldn't expect any relationship there.
