I believe the rear U-joint is going bad. How dificult is it to change the rear u joint Do I need any special tools for the job?

Once you remove the driveshaft, either take it to a machine shop for pressing, or use a tourch and heat the yolk at the side of the u-joint cap. This will soften the epoxy they lock the joint with, then use a ball joint press.
