1998 Geo Tracker 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I believe it's a 1.6 4 cylinder. You can start it and let it idle. For the first 10 minutes or so it is just fine then it develops a pretty good oil leak in the front of the engine where the oil pan lip and timing cover meet. Any way that's where it appears to be leaking. Major job to fix? And possible problem scenario?

It will either the crankshaft or the camshaft oil seal. It is not major job, for a novice on scale 1 to 10, 10 being hardest, I would say about 6.5. You need harmonic balancer pulley puller and seal remover and installer to finish the job. All these you can "borrow" at either Autozone or CSK/O'Reilly. You pay the deposit, and you get your money back when you return the tools. I suggest that you purchase either a Chilton or Haynes manual prior to starting the work.

Possible scenario? If you somehow forget that you have a leak and you are driving, you will run the engine with no oil and major damage will occur internally. You know that, right?
