Recently while I'm driving (96 Geo Prizm) I start hearing a noise at 30 mph that gets louder when I pick up more speed. So I thought it was something wrong with my tires. When I took my car back to Discount Tires they explained to me the tires of fine and it could be my wheel bearings. I'm not sure how to inspect my wheel bearings to see if they are ok.
I'm trying to read through my "Haynes Repair Manual" and no luck yet.
Could you please help!

Jack the car up, put on stands.
Make sure the ign. Is off and steering wheel locked.
Grasp the wheel on left and right side, pull and push to see if there is any play, do the same top and bottom.
If there is any play it is most likely the bearings, but check the lower ball joint and tie rod for any movement.
