Gearbox problem

I have a vw golf 1.6 and my gearbox broke. Would it be fine to use a gearbox from a golf that is 1.4 or 1.9?

Or even possibly from a vw polo?

Auto or manual, changing the auto to a different model may come with some problems as the TCM may be different.
