When I poured gas in my tank it was showering under my car in scattered spots on my gas tank. When I looked under my car for lots of holes there were none most of the bottom of tank was covered in a thin layer of dirt. Anyway if you can help me figure out what is wrong? Thanks.

Good morning.
The fuel tank has rotted out internally and will no longer hold fuel.

You will need to replace the tank with either a new one or a used one to resolve this issue.

You will need to drain the fuel from the tank instead of letting it leak.

Then you can remove the tank for replacement.

From what you told me it is the fuel tank, to be sure, take it to a shop and have it confirmed.

Is it possible that the tank is rusted on top of the tank to the side on the outside just a thought and wanted your input. And can you tell me the procedure to remove the tank? Thanks again.

Ok

you need to remove the hose from the filler neck. Remove the electrical connection at the fuel pump. Remove the straps supporting the tank and using a floor jack with a piece of plywood, drop the tank

water collects inside the tank and rusts from the inside. Yes, it may be leaking from the top but that's why you need to take it to a shop and have them confirm all this.
