Engine Performance problem
2002 Ford Windstar 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive

After driving five to ten miles then parking, the van will not start. When the key is turned there is no clicking or sound. The lights, radio, and electric windows work in both the accessories and ignition on position. When the key is turned to the 'ignition start' position, the dashboard lights come on as normal. I have changed the starter thinking that it may be overheating. The van does start after a half an hour to three hours. Could this be an electrical ignition malfunction?

Have you checked to see if there is power to the starter relay?

No, I've not tested for current to the starter. After waiting for awhile the car starts. I did change the starter. How would I test for intermittent power to the starter?

Have a helper turn the key to the start position while you check for voltage to the smaller wire on the starter.
