2000 ford windstar.
while wife was driving everthing started to cut out, I recharged the battery and everything was good for a day and the same thing happend, my van has a system check so it went through its check and said charging system ok, so I replaced the battery, and low and behold it drained the battery again after driving around for a day, so I replaced the alt and now when it does a system check it says charging system problem, I ran the van for 3 hours started it a number of times and all seems ok, started the van this morning with no problems took the kids to school etc, came home started and shut it off a few times, and again seems ok, it almost seems like the on board computer is azz backwards, when it says everything is ok its not charging and when it says its not ok it charges, baffled.

I replaced the new alternator with another new OEM alternator--same result. The problem was that the OEM alternators were good(we tested them but were not operating at the FORD
spec that my pcm expected. Pcm expected 14.1Volts--these OEM alternators operated at 13.6 volts. I installed an alternator purchased from a Ford dealer. It worked perfectly--problem solved.
