1996 Ford Windstar mileage: 105000. My Windstar runs on just battery power. I have changed the alternator with an original one from a dealer that my buddy works for. It will run for about 15/20mins on a fully charged battery before the battery is completely drained. Is there a regulator or something else that might cause this problem Do you have any suggestions?

Have the charging system diagnosed by someone experienced, obviously the alternator is not charging the battery, on your car, I'm not sure if the regulator is integral to the alternator, or maybe a fusible link is burned out. Is it a new battery? 20 mins sounds like an old one, new should last at least 2 hrs with no accessories running, that's what's known as reserve capacity, usually expressed in minutes on the battery label, in case the alt dies on the road, at least car can be driven possibly to a safe location, lights, ac, will decharge it quickly.
