Have a problem with the gear shift selector.

I currently have a problem with the gear shift selector. I can not get it out of park. I have checked the steering column and there appears to be no solenoids of any sort. Also looked at the brake pedal nothing there. However the problem started a day or two after some one adjusted the steering column ignition switch for the owner. The owner states that when she tried to start the truck she heard a noise or snap sound in the steering column. My question being is there some sort of a mechanical lock in the steering column that locks the gear shift. I have it apart at this time and can see the steering wheel lock which seems to be working properly. Do I need to continue further into the steering column?

In the steering column connected to the ignition switch is what they call the shift interlock system. You will have to remove the igniton switch to get at it. The shift interlock syatem will not allow the vehicle to change gears. The system will lock the shifter if broken.

How do I remove the ignition switck, I dont see any obvious ways to release it. With that said will I also have to remove the cup assembly the ignition switch is mounted in from around the steering shaft
