1992 Ford Thunderbird 3.8

I just put a motor and transmission in my car. The motor runs great but the transmission wont shift out of first it has new fluid in it and it is full. The motor and tranny sat for atleast 3 months. Could it just need to be driven or could it be something more serious.

Have the linkage checked to make sure it's oriented properly, then a local reliable trans shop hook it up for some testing, also see if any trans codes are there, if you had an obdI code reader, you may be able to pull some trans codes, if any, yourself, doesn't sound too good right now. Any warranty with that trans?
