Hello

I have a 96 ford taurus 3.0 dohc 100k miles.
Recently I was driving and went to take off and the car start stumbling. It didn't stall just stumble like it was not getting enough gas so I gave more gas and it drove out off it fine "ran smooth". I scanned the pcm
for trouble codes these are what came back in this order.
1518 imrc intake manifold runner malfunction stuck open
401 egr
1131 h02 sensor
0353 ignition coil c primary circuit malfunction

From my past exsperence I know one code could trip others so?What is the imrc is it the fuel rail?
When I start it in the morning I do get an eratic idle up & down on the rpm needle on the dash

thanx

I don't know what the problem might be, but you are right about computers in general. They can trick you in replacing a bunch of parts that don't need it.

I try to look at simple cause-and-effect.
1. Ignition coil: An ignition coil consists of wires. If a wire opens or shorts, it's not going to fix itself, and it would never run smoothly, so that's probably not it.

2. The oxygen sensor only compares the richness of the fuel/air mixture, so any fuel or vacuum problem is capable of setting this code. Check this one last.

3. Erratic idle when cold: Start by checking for vacuum leaks, especially PCV hose leaks. There's a PCV hose that you can only see if you take off the upper plenum. I learned this after my 2000 Taurus (also DOHC) had erratic idle, and replaced everything from the EGR valve, throttle position sensor, and about $200 worth of other parts, and the problem was a boot-shaped rubber hose that cost $15. Good luck.
