Rough idle

I have a 1995 Ford Taurus 3.8 Liter. About 2000 miles ago I replace the plugs due to rough idle. Sometimes the engine shakes and then runs smooth and then shakes again. All plugs looked great The engine has 78k. No brown no black oil deposits or too rich a mixture. Now it is doing it again. Really annoying at times even worse with the AC on. Air filter is new. Thoughly cleaned the throttle body not too long ago. I believe the ignition wires might need replacing as one connector was slightly oxidized. Any clues? Thank you, Dave

I always start by checking hoses. Even if your check-engine light sets a code, make sure your hoses are all good, especially your PCV hoses. If you have a bad hose, it can trick your computer into thinking something else is wrong, thereby causing you to replace a bunch of unnecessary parts. Unfortunately, many professional mechanics also make this mistake.

Once you're sure that all hoses are good, then you can look at spark plug wires, fuel pressure, etc.
