Car driven regularly - ran great. Replaced original water pump as preventative maintenance. Disconnected battery and CPS connector. Also greased squeaky cam position sensor drive. Changed oil. Started to check repairs, seemed to run fine. Pulled outside and left for a couple hours. Got in to drive an had noticeable lack of power. Further driving in subdivision resulted in more degradation. WOT would get maybe 5 mph w/surging. Finally, held WOT, RPMS would start at about 1500, and decrease till engine died. Restarts immediately and idles fine, just wont go above 1500 rpms and then dies. No CEL and no codes w/cheap Acutron scanner. I've tried pulling CPS & cam sensor connectors and reseating. Can't figure this one out. Would expect codes if by chance fuel pump or FPDM happen to fail. Car has 1/4 tank and had up on ramps to do pump job. Help !

What do you have for engine size?
Did you remove the cam sensor and shaft out?

Has 3.0L vulcan 2V engine. I did not remove or loosen the sensor drive, only the sensor & connector. From other threads I have read, a faulty cam sensor may not even be noticeable. I pulled the cam sensor while running w/no change to condition. I pulled CPS & engine quit running, so I deduced faulty CPS ckt/sensor is not the problem either. I was thinking of making a jumper to insert at the fuel filter to check pressure, as I now suspect the pump may be failing. I can hear it cycle w/key on. Maybe check FPDM output as well to see idle duty cycle? Former owner said original pump failed at 55K mi (now has 150K), and these seem to be a high failure rate item. Daughter has run out of gas at least twice in the past year also.
