2001 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Automatic 44555 miles

Paid $100 to have car analyzed. Said ignition coil, wire set, spark plug not meeting specifications. Car is firing on 5 rather than 6 cyclinders. Dealer wants about $2400 to fix. Have 44,993 miles on car. Spent $300 just having it analyzed, oil changed, brakes fluid changed. Called Ford to find out if any recalls. No recalls. Is 44,993 miles rather low to have this type of expensive problem? You can get a used car for aout $4500. Is it worth keeping car?

Hi Pamela Northcutt and welcome to 2carpros

Try having that particular cylinder checked

A misfire in a specific cylinder should lead you to check the sparkplug/compression/injector for that cylinder.

For $2400 repair, you might as well get another car

It is worth keeping the car I can teach you how to do this job if you want you will get quit dirty but if you would want a shop do it I would look into another shop to do the work that price is way to high
it would be about $410.00 around my area
