2001 Ford Taurus Cuts off?

Car will be running fine. Then shut off for no apparent reason. Have changed fuel filter and pump. Checked wires and distributor. Am completely baffled! Other than periodically dying. The engine otherwise runs very strong. Have also tried dif grades of gas with no difference. BTW. Also have an '86 buick regal that does the same thing :-)

Will it start back up or have to wait for it
check for codes
remove and clean IAC valve
if no codes and if was able to start back up again

Took the IAC off. Cleaned it like you said, and so far two days of a perfectly running vehicle! Thank You!
