We have been told that the speed control sensor is bad in my 1999 Ford Taurus SE. The problem is, when we put the car in drive and go to take off, it doesn't want to shift into first gear. It does fine if we start in low and shift manually, but it won't do it on its own.

When we went to the part store to get the sensor they said there are a couple of them. My question is: Do you have a picture of the one that is for my car or where I can get one?

It is a 1999 ford taurus se DOHC 3.8L motor. Thank you for your help in advance

Depending on the transmission AX4N or AX4S the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), can look little different and are oriented differently.

I have attached the diagrams for VSS for both of the transmissions below, for anyone might need help with this.

Any questions please let me know.
Thank you.
