For the past couple of weeks, my Taurus has been acting up. The engine doesn't put out the power it used to, and when I push down on the accelerator after a complete stop, the battery light comes on. After I've reached a cruising speed with the car, the light goes off. What is going on?

The alternator belt could be loose-try adjusting it and see what happens-if it continues have the charging system checked out.

My first thought is to check the electrical charging system. The alternator and or battery may be going to the weak side. I assume there is no check engine light accompaning this.
