Is the shifter the problem, or is it moving? Are the brake lights working?

Replace the brake light switch (or adjust). It could be unplugged too. It is located at the top of the brake pedal under the dash. When you touch the brake, the switch turns on the lights and sends power to the park lock solenoid which allows you to shift from park. If the brake light switch isn't working, you will not be able to shift from park.

Let me know what you find.
Joe

Brake light switch seems to be OK. Check with meter and it reads continuity. Cable that connects to switch has voltage. Bulbs are OK. Fuses look good

You mentioned the brake lights don't work. Is that correct? If they are not working, there is either a wiring issue between the switch and the bulbs, or there could be power to the switch but not power out from it. Have you checked that?

It's a fuze, beilive it or not Ford put a eletric lock on the park lock. If it's the same fuze as my ranger, it number 13 in the box. Replace it and you should be fine
note : some cars have as many as 6 fuzeboxes in different places all across the car.

My friends, thank you very much for your valuable help. I was able to fix my car and save a lot of money. My problem was the stop light switch. It is necessary to get it out from under the hood in order to make a good inspection. The small metal clamp didn't work but I was able to fix it with four small plastic straps replacing metal clamp. I'm forwarding your site to all my friends.
