Is there a sort cut on taking the heater out with out removing all of the dash

I do not have any heat at idle only when driving what could be the problem. I have changed the thermostat and flushed the system and the water pump has been changed also

Yes, I do have orange/brown coolant and no heat in the cabin. I have the car diagnosed by pepboys and was told that I need to replace the heater core and water pump. It is more than thousand dollars. Is there any way to reduce the cost to repair it?
