1994 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

i have a 94 taurus with a 130k miles and 3.0 liter v6 that according to a vin search produces about 140 horsepower. I get about 13 mpg city driving compared to the 20 plus I've read I should get. My question is, what can cause significant decrease in gas mileage like I am experiencing?

Check your map sensor for vacume leaks check to see if plugs are worn check the connections on coolant temp sensor check resistance of coolant temp sensor check your main computer ground at battery
