1994 Ford Taurus Oil Pump

Re: 3.8 L Engine. My oil light won't go out and am faced with the possibility of replacing the pump. Since I have had the front cover off and seen that, at least, the pump cavity is an integral part of the front cover, so am I right in assuming that if the cavity is out of dimension that the whole front cover will have to be replaced? In other words, the oil pump cannot be replaced as a unit seaprate from the front cover.

Hello and thanks for donating

the oil pump can be removed and replaced individually. Just remove the oil filter, oil cooler (if equipped) and remove the oil pump-to-front cover bolts, this will allow pump to remove from cover.
