Water pump

I can not get the water pump off my ford truck. It does not fit through the hole in the alternator bracket. Is there a secret to taking off a water pump that I do not know?
The pump is on my 1996 ford ranger, 2.3L, air.

Did You remove the inner timing belt cover?

No I could not get the cover off without moving eletrical wires and pulley. However I did get the pump off. Pain in the Asstray. Lol Thanks for the help.
