I have a clean low mileage Ranger bought in early ‘06; only 50K.

About a month ago started smelling burnt plastic coming from the engine.

Dealer tech says its "Might be " the Alternator; wants $500.

Customer service and no one else at ford will hardly take my call, about this obvious defect.

Everyone I tried talking to said: "Good luck”.

I've been reading about many of you having this problem; how do I initiate a recall?

You can try calling the NTHSA and file a complaint..at
1-888-327-4236. In the meantime, make sure it is the alternator, test like this.
