is there a way to tell if a engine vibration is from harmonic balancer or motor mounts

Best way to check is to check them whether they're loose or worned-could be the ignition misfiring or a driveline/ transmission problem.

To isolate a vibration, check your oil level first to make sure your not overfilled. If ok, remove accessory belt to isolate those components. If vibration remains, you may have a base engine concern (compression) mounts (isolate mounts one at a time).
