My 1997 truck won't allow me to change gears with the motor on.

Hi there,

check that you have not got a leak in the clutch hydraulics, do you have good pedal pressure when you push in the clutch, what happens if you start it in gear with the clutch pressed in?

Hi robitron,

When you start the engine in gear with clutch depressed, do you feel any power transmitted to the wheels as if the clutch is not fully depressed?

I suspect your problem is due to the clutch disc sticking/stuck. The dampers could have detached themselves to get lodged in between the pressure plate and flywheel.
